It’s different here
At Tarlow Naito & Summers, LLP we always strive to deliver excellent legal services aimed at getting actual and tangible results for our clients. We are not “process lawyers” who dispense legal analysis, procedures and process in a vacuum. In addition to providing our clients top-level legal advice, we work with our clients to develop efficient and effective problem-solving solutions. We understand many of our clients are in competitive industries, and therefore pride ourselves on being responsive to our client’s needs. Our role is to advocate for and protect our clients’ interests, but not to get in the way of completing the deal. Ultimately, our goal with every client is to understand their business, inside and out, so when questions come up or problems arise, we can give accurate, efficient, and effective legal advice within the context of the client’s overall business needs and long-term goals.

What We Do
We strive to provide high-quality, cost-effective and timely legal services to our clients. Whether we are engaged to document and close a transaction or to litigate a business dispute, our goal is always to get the best result for our clients as quickly and efficiently as possible.
After nearly forty years of trying to reduce what we try to accomplish every day to a few bullet points, Art Tarlow came up with the following:
Business, Real Estate & Construction
Transactions Through Trials
Results
This phrase concisely summarizes our practice areas, which include the following:
- Business
- Real Estate and Land Use
- Construction
- Creditor’s Rights and Bankruptcy

ART’S PHILOSOPHY
We have devoted a section of this site to Arthur L. Tarlow, our departed senior partner and friend. There, we discuss many of his views and values that relate to serving clients in a law practice. Art was larger than life. We are thankful that he taught us how to practice law, how to be effective lawyers for our clients, and how to run our law firm. Although we lost Art in 2010, we still implement his teachings every day.
Art would try mightily to resolve disputes by settlement negotiations or mediation, often early on in the matter. It is no accident that Art’s favorite marketing phrase was just one word-“Results.” He was a pioneer in the use of mediation in business and construction cases to settle complex multi-party disputes. If the dispute did not settle, however, Art turned into a ferocious give-no-quarter trial lawyer who embodied the term “zealous advocate.” He often said: “There is a time to settle, and you must give it your best shot. If settlement fails, however, it is time to fight, and when it is time to fight, you must fight your hardest.” He then said there were three ways to win a trial: “Preparation, preparation, preparation.”
